Today, we are going to look at Monster Hunter Stories 2 Wings of Ruin, This is the next entry in the monster hunter franchise and will be released on July 9th for pc and Nintendo switch. The monster’s wings of ruin tell the story of a young rider living in Mahana the central village of Hokolo island where people hatch monster eggs and race the monsters to become their monster companions.
You can ride and that stick to you on explorations and during combat, if you haven’t played monster hunter stories or even any other monster hunter game yet no worries wings of ruin has a standalone storyline and makes it easy for new players to dive into it.
Before starting into the game you can create a male or female character with different customizations such as hair color skin tone body shape and whatever else you like to create your own unique character then it’s time to hope right into the story with a festival in Mahana that gets disturbed by the vanishing of their guardian Ratha and all the ratholes as well to find out what happened you team up with a girl called kana, that guides and accompanies you in the game and explains all basic gameplay and combat mechanics during your first missions at the end of the intro where you proved yourself worthy you receive a mysterious rather loss egg with which you leave the island to store it into the actual storyline
Monster Hunter Stories 2 Wings of Ruin Review: The gameplay of monster hunter stories 2 is based on exploration combat and hatching acts to race monsters there are a lot of different areas to explore from grasslands and forests to snowy mountains and ruins each area is inhabited by different kinds of monsters with different skills and abilities during the game you learn how to read and fight them which weapons to use in which situations and how to use the special abilities of your monsters and party members to your advantage besides the main quests.
There are also a lot of side missions available that you either receive directly from the inhabitants of the villages or that you can pick from a mission board these quests are mostly about killing a specific amount of monsters or collecting resources such as stone herbs or charms that sounds pretty repetitive but it isn’t because you can accept as many of those side quests
As you want and simply complete them on the side that will grant you different rewards and also helps you a lot to level up your character and your monsters plus the grafting materials that you pick up while exploring or that can be found in chests all over the world are necessary to either craft potions weapons and armor or to upgrade them your main missions, on the other hand, are mostly focused on finding boss monsters and their dance and collect one of their eggs.
Monster Hunter Stories 2 Wings of Ruin Review: These eggs can then be hatched and the monsters can be raised and added to your party you can take up to six monsters with you on exploration and even during combat you can constantly switch between them also, every monster comes with different genes that give it different strangers and abilities and you can change these genes or even channel them from one monster to another to create the perfect companion for your playstyle.
A huge part of monster hunter stories 2 is the combat the battles in wings of ruin are turn-based and are mostly working as a rock paper scissors system with 3 different attacks that you can choose from power take and speed power attacks beat tag attacks beats speed and speed beats power and every monster is using one or more of these attacks during the battle the challenge is to learn which monster is using which attack and how they change their attacks during the fight Rico monsters are mostly using only one attack so they are very predictable stronger ones change their attacks during combat so you always have to adjust to that the more battles you fight the more experience you make and the more predictable will battles be same with the weapons.
There are three types of weapon damage blunt slash and ranged and 6 different types of weapons from sword over the hammer to bow and arrow when you encounter a monster for the first time you have to try different kinds of weapons to see which one deals damage and which one doesn’t once you made this experience it is saved and you will see the best weapon type for this monster in a small bar below.
Monster Hunter Stories 2 Wings of Ruin Review: Its name the same for monster parts especially the stronger ones have different parts that you need to break to defeat the monster each part might require a different weapon and strategy which means you have to switch weapons and monsters during battle as well as learning how to use the abilities of your party members and their monsters is the key to success but even if it might seem complex at the beginning you will easily get the hang of it again experience in defeating different kinds of monsters and create your own combat style and if it shouldn’t work sometimes
There’s still the option to run away even though the story of monster hunter stories 2 can only be played in singleplayer mode some of the side quests can be completed in online co-op as well there are expedition quests where you explore monster dance together to find eggs trial quests where you battle against monsters in the arena and there are slaying quests that are made in the traditional monster hunter style you can choose all of them from the mission board in the villages just like the single-player side missions, in addition, there’s also a vs mode available in which 4 players can battle each other with customized rules and settings and if you have a safe file of monster hunter rice you can link it to wings Ferdin and receive another armor set for your rider
Monster hunter stories 2 is an open-world RPG with a beautifully designed world to explore heartwarming stories to discover and more than 80 monsters to battle and hatch the turn-based combat system is really good and challenging and I never found battles boring or too long even though there has been a lot of animation and I give a rating of 4.0 out of 5.0 rating. I hope you enjoy this game review and let’s give your thoughts about this game below the comment section.
