Tandem: A Tale of Shadows Review :
Welcome to Game Review this is often more of an informational Post about all or any more details of and Tandem A Tale of Shadows what we all know so far.
Today we are going to look at Tandem: A Tale of Shadows. Tandem A Tale of Shadows is a puzzle-platform game and this game was developed by monochrome a small indie studio from Paris and is set in London at the end of the 19th century.
Tandem: A Tale of Shadows Review: It tells the story of Emma a 10-year-old girl who enters a mysterious manner on the search for an amissing boy Thomas Kane the only child of a famous illusionist and while Scotland yard gave up on the case Emma is determined to investigate on her way to Kane manor she meets Fenton a magic teddy bear with mysterious abilities that allow him to bend perspectives and move within the shadows together they are able to enter the manor and find clues and hints about Thomas disappearance by solving a variety of puzzles.
You as a player control both of the characters by constantly switching between them and combining their unique skills and perspectives Emma is played in a top-down perspective and can only maneuver on the floor while Fenton is played in a sidescroller perspective and can only move on walls and between shadows.
Emma lights up the scene with lanterns or other sources of light and has to use solid or movable objects to create a shadow path for phantom this way the teddy bear can reach different switches and buttons that affect Emma’s ground level and can collect the crystals they need to enter the next room.
Tandem: A Tale of Shadows Review: The game features 5 victorian inspired worlds with different topics and unique designs that are parted into multiple levels with increasing difficulty. During your journey, you have to solve more than 40 puzzles and will encounter a variety of mechanical toy-like enemies and bosses and each chapter offers new ways to solve puzzles and also new and more challenging opponents to outsmart some want you to think outside the box while others need speed and dexterity but one thing all puzzles have in common is that Emma and phantom have to work together to solve them and even though there are two characters to control it’s not a co-op game and there’s also no option planned for a later update you have to control both characters on your own.
This is a bit of a missed opportunity in my opinion because the game could have been a really cool couch co-op but on the other hand, it might have taken away the interesting part of switching between different perspectives.
So overall tandem a tale of shadows is a pretty solid and enjoyable game with challenging puzzles interesting mechanics, and a good balance of difficulty the graphics and design fit the story pretty well and even though the scenery of tandem is pretty dark and mystical it’s not too spooky as to not be suitable for kids.
Tandem: A Tale of Shadows Review: The controls are pretty simple precise and intuitive and the music and sound effects add to the immersion the only somewhat negative point for me are the graphics in the cutscenes as they look a bit outdated but they still manage to tell the story and at its core, the game is a puzzle-adventure anyhow and it’s doing a great job with this how long you need to finish tandem is hard to say and depends on your puzzle-solving skills but I’d say you should at least expect about 6 hours there are also some hidden rooms and easter eggs to discover that might extend your playtime. This game was released on Oct 21st for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. That’s all today and I hope you enjoy this review. Please comment about this game.
