Today we are going to look at Exo One, I have played the demo around eight times and I’m still engaged every single time that I play it what I love so much about it is that the concept is so simple yet it manages to evoke such strong emotions and feelings all you do is rolling a ball with some additional elements attached to it whilst rolling you can also decide to float which really gives you the sense of speed and mastery of acceleration.

Exo One Review: Although the concept is so simple it never feels restrictive instead it manages to feel as if you have complete freedom agency you are the one setting your own girls instead of the game selling external calls.

I am intrinsically motivated to look ahead to try and find out what’s going on in this world which the game superbly sets up. There you are out on this foreign planet and it’s up to you to discover what is going on.

Exo one is a master at making the player few powerful and in control, it feels like everything I do is because I choose to do so and that also goes in hand in hand with the sound it feels like I am the one creating the sounds not the game if I decide to quickly flow down and sear across the ground just a couple of centimeters above it feels as if I am the one producing those sounds instead of the game having sound as the feedback I’m the one generating the sounds.

There is unlimited freedom in Exo one you can go and do whatever you want but you’re always guided facilitated by your own curiosity and the mystery which is provoked there are no artificial goals telling you what to do know you do what you want to do. Everything in Exo one is player-driven everything the player does is because of intrinsic motivation everything the player wants to derive from their own wills and wishes but the game is so good at teasing their ward letting you know how far away you are from a discovery point letting you see the lights in the distance indicating that there’s something interesting coming up.

Exo One Review: This emphasizes and enhances the sense of self-exploration yet all of this wouldn’t work if the moment of moment gameplay wasn’t engaging and it is because the player once again sets his own goals I see a hill coming up I know that I can launch myself off that hill to generate a lot of force and go faster than ever before I’m constantly mid maxing trying to find the most efficient way to go faster it is a flow you go in faster, slower, trying to find the optimal solution to the problem.

The moment-to-moment gameplay is always interesting all of these elements create an incredibly immersive game one in which you can really sink your teeth into one that’s truly about exploration self-discovery whenever you play this you’re almost in a meditative state it’s so calm and there’s this sense of tranquility all around you everything in the world just doesn’t matter what matters is getting towards the next goal.

Exo One Review: This game will be released on Nov 18th for Xbox Series X, S, and PC. I hope you enjoy this review and If you play this game please comment the below section.

  1. Hello, is there an error in the score? The text reads like somewhere between a 4 and a 5 kind of game, but the score is lower than it was for games that were bashed in the review (like War Mongrels, which still got a higher score than this).
