Sonic Origins Collection

Following the release of the 2020 Sonic film, Sonic Origins was developed alongside Sonic Colors: Ultimate (2021). Because the film attracted many new fans, Sonic Team president Takashi Iizuka sought to make earlier Sonic games available on newer platforms. Iizuka remarked that, while they are often rereleased via emulation, their 4:3 aspect ratios made them feel “vintage” on modern displays; he wanted Origins to modernize them with widescreen compatibility and new features to appeal to both new and veteran players.

Sega created the compilation internally, handling the display and consolidation of the featured games. Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, and Sonic CD remasters are based on remakes developed in the Retro Engine between 2011 and 2013; Christian Whitehead, the Retro Engine’s designer, upgraded it to allow the remakes to run in a compilation. Powerhouse Animation Studios created the new cutscenes in collaboration with longtime Sonic artist Tyson Hesse, with a script written by Sonic comic book writer Ian Flynn.

The Origins remaster of Sonic 3 & Knuckles was created by Simon Thomley and his studio Headcanon, who also worked on the Retro Engine remakes and Sonic Mania. Thomley stated that he was hired to work on the remaster independently of Origins. Sonic 3 & Knuckles is being re-released for the first time since 2011, after suspicions that music licensing issues related to Michael Jackson’s involvement with Sonic 3 delayed future releases.

Due to Sega’s inability to use the music for Origins, Sonic Team composer Jun Senoue modified several tracks produced for Sonic 3 before Jackson’s involvement; these were previously featured in the 1997 Sonic & Knuckles Collection for Windows.

Sonic Origins Story & Gameplay

Sonic Origins is a Sonic the Hedgehog video game compilation that Sega will release. It includes remasters of the first four Sonic platform games, initially released for the Sega Genesis and Sega CD: Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), Sonic CD (1993), and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (1994). (1994). The games can be played in their original format and a new widescreen variant that eliminates lives.

Sonic Origins Characters & New updates

Even though the characters weren’t entirely presented in the first game, one of the most intriguing new elements of Origins will be the chance to play the games as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. However, the character selection screen shown briefly in the trailer has some fans guessing. There’s much free space on each side of the three characters, leading some to believe that more playable characters may be disclosed or added after launch. Amy and Metal Sonic are the two most popular and apparent choices. Both are featured in the Origins artwork since they were initially seen in the games included in the collection. Amy appears in Sonic CD, and Metal Sonic appears in Sonic 2. More specifics will be published soon, according to Sega, and coins can be used to unlock other game aspects. Maybe some of the unlockables will be new characters.

Sonic Origins Review: There are some indications that Amy and Metal Sonic will not be playable, at least not in all four Origins games. Metal Sonic has portrayed kidnapping Amy in a scene on CD. If Amy is the one doing the pursuit, that would be highly perplexing. If she can be utilized to play through the CD, perhaps that scene will be changed to show Sonic in Amy’s place. It also appears to have been verified that Knuckles cannot be utilized in CD, making other selectable characters even less likely.

Sonic Origins Graphics & Visuals

Every game has updated visuals and other “improvements” for modern hardware. You may play them all as intended (with the ancient aspect ratio), but you can also try out features and modes that were never accessible on your Genesis or Mega Drive. In any of the games, you can play as Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, and an “Anniversary Mode” adds a widescreen ratio and eternal lives. By completing objectives, you can earn medallions to access the content.

Sonic Origins Release date

Sonic Origins was announced during a Livestream honoring the Sonic franchise’s 30th anniversary on May 27, 2021, and is set to be published on June 23, 2022, on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
