Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Story

Ubisoft Milan and Ubisoft Paris are working on an action-adventure turn-based strategy video game called Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.

The game is a sequel to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a crossover between Nintendo’s Mario and Ubisoft’s Rabbids properties (2017). Cursa has been spreading Darkmess and seeking the energy of the titular Sparks, creatures generated by the fusing of Lumas and Rabbids, and has thrown the galaxy into turmoil in the process.

Mario and his companions must travel to many worlds in order to restore galaxy peace, save the Sparks, and destroy Cursa and her henchmen. New allies join them, including Bowser, who wants to return his stolen army from Cursa.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Gameplay

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Review: Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope’s gameplay is quite similar to Kingdom Battle’s. Players can choose between nine characters: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and Rabbid Mario, as well as new characters Edge, Rabbid Rosalina, and Bowser, with the Rabbids being fully voiced for the first time.

Players are also entrusted with rescuing Sparks scattered throughout the galaxy, each of which possesses unique abilities that aid the player in battle. Beep-0, who is also fully voiced, serves as a mentor for the other characters once more. Level designs are less linear than in the first game, and turn-based tactical combat utilises a new system that disregards the grid-based layout of the first game.

This new combat system has been compared to titles like Divinity: Original Sin. Enemy encounters outside of turn-based combat are also included. Mario can now be replaced with another character.

You can move around in this space anyway you want, you can dash a Bob-omb, and then you have it in your hand. You can move around as much as you want, but it will eventually explode. So you just have a few seconds to react, which is drastically different from what we had previously. As a result, it adds a real-time component to the mix.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Combat

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope appears to be expanding on Kingdom Battle’s mechanics, rather than simply redoing them for the sake of a sequel. By centering so much of the battle modification mechanics on Sparks, players should be able to better understand how to use each one, with whom, and where.

The simplified approach will also provide players with novel battle circumstances, such as combining Vampdash and Regenesis to constantly regenerate a character’s health, or Reflector and Glitter to pull adversaries in and turn their own assaults against them. Options should be limitless in Sparks of Hope, with a variety of foes to play with and find the ideal combos and techniques.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Characters

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Review: Sparks are a hybrid species of Luma and Rabbids that come in a range of colours and designs and grant players specific advantages or elemental abilities when equipped, according to Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. Players can select from a number of alternatives while equipping two per hero.

  1. Starburst – A yellow Spark that boosts teammate attack power by 40%.
  2. Aquanox – A turquoise water Spark that grants the player Splash Attack, which is comparable to the previous game’s action Bounce.
  3. Reflector – Using a mirror-like item, equipping Reflector allows players to reflect opponent attacks back at them.
  4. Exosphere – a black Spark with three shields and the ability Fortify, which decreases incoming damage by 35%.
  5. Glitter – A Disco-ball-style Spark, Glitter possesses a Gather ‘Round attack that encourages adjacent adversaries to attack that character while ignoring others. Players may notice parallels between Magnet Dance and Magnet Groove from the Donkey Kong Adventure DLC.
  6. Toxiquake – This slimy green Spark poisons adjacent opponents with Shockwave Ooze.
  7. Ethering – A Spark that appears to be enveloped in blue fire, players acquire the skill Unseen, which makes the character invisible for a turn and makes them immune to being targeted. Remember that this does not protect you against splash damage or Super Effects.
  8. Vampdash – This purple Spark riding a leaf enables players to recover based on the amount of damage they cause on adversaries, most likely by dashing into them.
  9. Electroid – Adds the Shock Attack ability to player weapons, causing electric damage.
Pyrostar’s abilities have yet to be verified, although it is expected that this Spark will grant players the Fire Attack ability.
  10. Zephyrquake – This purple and white Spark can create three gust shockwaves around the character. Hit enemies may also be thrown backwards.
  11. Pyrogeddon – Riding a blazing cloud like the Monkey King or possibly the Nimbus Cloud from Dragon Ball, this Spark rains meteor showers on opponents.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope New Faces

Regenesis, Electrogeddon, Cryobolide, and Aquaquake are some other Sparks. These include a Baby Luma-style Spark grabbed by the Darkness and a cyan Spark capable of raining an ice storm on opponents.

Each one gives you an attacking benefit as well as protection from that element. Better yet, once obtained, these Sparks can be equipped by any hero, giving players the freedom to freely mix and match their loadout to make each battle encounter seem unique.

When these are combined with a variety of new weaponry and characters, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope appears to be providing fans with a plethora of options and allowing them to play how they like.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Weapons

Each hero has a unique weapon that is tailored to their play style. Rabbid Mario battles in melee with power gloves, whilst Bowser can hurl explosive projectiles.

They also have distinct skills, such as Peach forming a shield around teammates, Rabbid Mario beginning counterattacks, and Rabbid Rosalina putting all adversaries to sleep. There are other distinguishing characteristics, such as Luigi’s sharp-shooting powers, which allow him to deliver greater damage the further he is from a target.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope New Enemies

Actual enemies are from the Super Mario Bros series, such as Goombas and Bob-Ombs, as well as Cursa’s own warped pals, form members of Cursa’s army in Sparks of Hope.

When combat begins, the game switches to a battle map, and a team screen appears, allowing the player to change teammates, loadout, and heal before the conflict begins. Using an item consumes one of the character’s two actions every turn, but it provides a great amount of diversity to the roster since even being able to heal during their turn is a significant change from the fixed archetypes that each character had in the first game.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Exploration

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Review: Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope entails saving the cosmos, which necessitates the gathering of allies. The main mission of Pristine Peaks is to rescue Rabbid Rosalina, who is imprisoned within a castle.

The castle dungeon contains several player battles, and health does not regenerate naturally between missions, however, Rabbid Peach has a healing special move in combat. It’s preferable to rotate through characters, using some for random battles and saving the player’s favored squad for the more difficult clashes.

This is a significant improvement over Kingdom Battle, as players were frequently stuck with one team throughout the game.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Side Missions

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is more reminiscent of a JRPG than its predecessor. Explorable levels, random encounters, and Sparks operating as a usable magic system, similar to FF7’s Materia, are all great developments.

The stages are enjoyable to explore, the roster offers more combat possibilities, and the battles are speedier. The tale excerpt in the Sparks of Hope teaser was likewise darker than Kingdom Battle, with a more serious tone and a more dangerous opponent, while it still had funny moments.

On the other hand, Kingdom Battle now feels like it was laying the groundwork for Sparks of Hope, with its sequel vastly enhancing the concept on all fronts.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Meet the Team

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope follows Mario and his buddies, as well as their Rabbid equivalents, as they battle a malevolent cosmic monster known as Cursa.

Rabbids are Ubisoft’s hyperactive, slightly demented rabbit-like critters, while Mario is a plumber who is frequently tasked with defending his country’s reigning monarch. Cursa has assaulted the Mushroom Kingdom and is now spreading Darkness throughout the cosmos while capturing Sparks’ astonishingly cute fusions of Rabbids and Super Mario Galaxy’s chibi-like star creatures called Lumas to harness their energy.

Sparks are new creatures in Sparks of Hope that players can equip and activate during battle to gain benefits such as elemental attack enhancements.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Graphics and Visuals

The battle in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope attracted our attention as a minor issue. These animations are fantastic and only last a few seconds, but each character only has one animation, which plays every time a special technique is employed.

It got boring soon during our session, and a full playthrough is sure to aggravate this. However, if this minor repetition is the worst aspect of the game’s combat, then fans should be unconcerned. The overworld of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is less linear and conventional, and as a result, it seems more like a genuine 3D Mario game.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Release date and Platforms

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope will be available on Nintendo Switch from October 20, 2022.
